In the last week Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has been accused of rape based on an incident in Las Vegas in 2009, and since he is on the cover of FIFA for the second year in a row, EA Sports has issued a statement on the situation.

"We have seen the concerning report that details allegations against Cristiano Ronaldo," an EA spokesperson said in a statement made to Reuters. "We are closely monitoring the situation, as we expect cover athletes and ambassadors to conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with EA's values."

Nike has provided a similar statement to Reuters, since they too work with the Juventus player, and Ronaldo himself has taken to Twitter to deny the allegations.

As highlighted by Reddit user iFaiIix though, EA has removed Ronaldo from the cover of the game on their official website, but when Gamereactor checked, at the time of writing the covers were unchanged on Origin, PS4, Switch, and Xbox digital stores.
