Eagle-eyed PlayStation fans hungry for new announcements will have had one eye on December, when Sony has in the past been known to host an event called PlayStation Experience (or PSX, as it's often called) in the US, usually around the same time as The Game Awards.

Despite a South East Asia PlayStation Experience taking place in Bangkok, Thailand in August, US-based players won't be getting the same treatment later this year. Sony Worldwide Studios' Shawn Layden confirmed as much over on the PlayStation Blogcast, confirming that it isn't happening as the company has decided to break a four-year streak (the event started in the UK around 02-03, before returning in North America in 2014).

The reason for the cancellation is that the company hasn't got enough games to show to really warrant a standalone event this year, with Layden admitting that they didn't want to bring fans together and have them feel underwhelmed.
