Nintendo Switch, the hybrid console that's both console and handheld, was released in March 2017 and has been a massive success story for Nintendo. According to the latest sales data from Japan, the platform is confirmed for the sixth consecutive month the best-selling console in the country. In fact, during the period between July 30th and August 26th 2018, Switch managed to shift as many as 199,000 units, for a total of over 4.9 million units since launch. If the console maintains this trend, it's very likely that the platform will reach and even exceed the 5 million units sold by the end of next week in Japan alone.
Software sales are also very good, with Splatoon 2, the colorful multiplayer shooter exclusively for Switch, which sold 96,639 copies in August, followed by WarioWare Gold and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe respectively with 90,121 and 86,897 copies. At the fourth and fifth positions, there are respectively Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum 'n' Fun! (77.761) and Etrian Odyssey X (75.834).
In short, it is clear that Nintendo Switch is in excellent health and looking ahead things are looking very bright for Nintendo in Japan, especially in view of the launch of the first Pokémon game for home platform, Pokémon: Let's Go Pikachu! / Let's Go Eevee! in November and then Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in December.
