Chris Avellone, the lead designer behind classic game Planescape: Torment, has promised that'll he join the team working on Kickstarter project Torment: Tides of Numenera if the project can hit a lofty stretch-goal target of $3.5million.

The campaign has already proved incredibly popular, thrashing the record set by Ouya's campaign by reaching the $1million mark within just six hours.

Torment still has until April 5 to get the rest of the required funds, and has already long passed the point of being funded. Let's see if the promise of Avellone joining the ranks will be enough to push the game towards its new stretch target.

If it does then his proposed contribution will involve work on two different fronts: "Firstly, he will be reviewing and providing feedback on all creative elements of the game, including the story, characters, and areas. His input will be invaluable as a resource to creative lead Colin McComb in further detailing the creative vision for the game. Secondly, Chris will be designing and writing an eighth companion for the game, working with Colin and Monte Cook to craft a companion ideal for both Torment and the Ninth World."
