When the Venom movie was first being put together, one of the greater promises of the project was that director Ruben Fleischer was pursuing an R-rating, making for a more violent interpretation of the iconic character. That rating, however, is now known to be in jeopardy.
Variety has reported that it's looking unlikely that Venom will be their first R-rated movie, even though that seemed set in stone just a few short months ago.
Apparently top Sony brass wants the movie to be violent, but keep it in PG-13 territory, so that the overall universe retains its family friendliness.
With just a few short months till the premiere, it's unclear where this will end up.
