It's transfer deadline day in the UK today, and that means players are switching clubs all over Europe, but particularly in the Premier League. One such player is Alex Hunter, the fictional star of the last two RPG campaigns from FIFA 17 and FIFA 18 respectively.
Hunter is returning for one last hurrah in FIFA 19 when his story will be concluded. Part of the story is going to involve his transfer to Real Madrid, which the Spanish club announced in a way not too dissimilar to the manner in which they announce real player signings - you can even buy Hunter shirts from the club shop.
Madrid fans, disappointed with this season's transfer window (so far, maybe they'll cheer up when they find a replacement for Ronaldo) aren't happy with the way that the club is presenting this fictional signing, and the publicity surrounding it has acted as a lightning rod for criticism. A quick trawl through social media reveals a lot of criticism of the PR stunt, but perhaps angry fans will cool down now that the club has started splashing the cash for real.
