A few days ago we reported, that a game called Abstractism was removed from Steam because the game apparently was secretly mining for cryptocurrency, and also maybe even installing a virus on user's PCs.

Valve has now taken further action because of what happened with Abstractism. Now pop-ups will appear when doing certain types of transactions, and the idea is to encourage players to check what they are doing one more time. Two additional dialog boxes are coming. The first will alert if a player is about to make a purchase for an item in a game that they don't have in their Steam library. Another pop-up will appear if the game is a new release.

On Reddit Valve's Tony Paloma (Drunken_F00l) said that additional measures are also incoming. He mentioned that "they have more planned to address this sort of problem that we couldn't get done in one day".

Let's hope that these two additional pop-ups are enough to reduce the number of people being scammed on Steam.

Thanks, GamesIndustry.
