Denuvo is the creator of the most popular anti-piracy software, but despite that, it hasn't been very popular in the gaming community since it does put an extra burden on the CPU which can affect the in-game experience negatively even for honest gamers.

As you might have suspected, pirates are trying different ways to bypass Denuvo, and one of them seem to have been Voksi from Bulgaria, who has a hacker group called Revolt. But the group's website suddenly disappeared and Voksi took to Reddit to explain why:

"It finally happened, I can't say it wasn't expected, Denuvo filed a case against me to the bulgarian authorities. Police came yesterday and took the server pc and my personal PC. I had to go to the police afterwards and explain myself. Later that day I contacted Denuvo themselves and offered them a peacful resolution to this problem. They can't say anything for sure yet, but they said the final word is by the prosecutor of my case.

"Sadly, I won't be able to do what I did anymore. I did what I did for you guys and of course because bloated software in our games shouldn't be allowed at all. Maybe someone else can continue my fight."

Even if Denuvo is often cracked within weeks after a game has been released, it protects them during the most important period in terms of sales for a video game. The publishers simply thinks it's a necessary evil, and the truth is that there probably isn't an easy solution to the problem right now as pirates would steal the software otherwise.

Denuvo has issued a statement regarding the lawsuit against Voksi and writes:

"Piracy is a threat that is now firmly established in the gaming industry, and we are focused on securing the content of game publishers and ensuring that hackers cannot distort the gaming environment for personal gain at the expense of other players.

"The swift action of the Bulgarian police on this matter shows the power of collaboration between law enforcement and technology providers and that piracy is a serious offence that will be acted upon."

What do you think of all this?

Assassins Creed Origins and Tekken 7 are two PC games said to have problems because of Denuvo.
