Execs at Nintendo and Microsoft seem to be getting along splendidly at the moment, as the upcoming Japanese release of the pictured Minecraft-themed 2DS XL perfectly illustrates.
The new model, which is set to land in Japan sometime during the summer, is one of three new models unveiled by Nintendo. The other two come with designs based on Animal Crossing and Mario Kart 7 respectively, but it's the creeper-inspired model that's most surprising.
A couple of years ago it was almost unthinkable that two first-party companies would collaborate on this level, but the crossplay co-op between the pair - which has seen Sony taking a lot of flak from gamers wanting the feature on PS4 too - that sees players on both platforms enjoying the likes of Minecraft and Fortnite together is obviously proving a success for both players and PR departments.
Given the upcoming release of the Minecraft-themed 2DS XL, which will come with the New Nintendo 3DS Edition of the game pre-installed on the handheld, it very much looks like the increased level of collaboration between Xbox and Nintendo will continue for the time being.
