The live-action turned CGI adaptation of Sonic the Hedgehog may have just got a Hollywood heavyweight onboard, that's if the latest report over on Deadline is to be believed. According to sources close to the site, Jim Carrey is going to take on the role of Sonic's iconic adversary, Doctor Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik, with the plot set to involve Robotnik trying to take over the world.

The movie, which is set to blend CGI sequences with live-action performances, is also set to star James Marsden and Tika Sumpter, and the project is set to be directed by Jeff Fowler.

The movie was announced back in 2014 and earlier this year a planned 2019 release was also confirmed. It'll be the first time that Sonic has ever attempted to take over Hollywood, although there has been a number of TV shows over the years.
