Microsoft's Xbox console is one that some of us may have strong memories with, whether it's running through Fable or the stellar shooting of Halo, and it was actually released all the way back in 2001, so a lot of time has gone by since we got the big black box.
The Xbox Bill Gates showed looked like a gigantic chromed X, and inspired the design of the Xbox we came to know when the console was released. Since it's a big part of gaming and console history, Microsoft has kept the X prototype, and during the weekend Xbox's Social Marketing Manager Graeme Boyd tweeted:
"The original Xbox prototype from Bill Gates's GDC 2000 keynote is on display at the new Microsoft Visitor Centre."
That means you can go check it out yourself if you're visiting the Seattle area, and the aluminium X units reportedly registered at $18,000 USD to manufacture and did actually work. The picture below was included in Graeme's tweet, so you can see what this stunning piece looked like.
