What many considered inevitable has been confirmed. There will be no Games Convention in Leipzig in 2009. The news broke in a press release from the organisers as the announced Games Convention Online - a show focusing on browser, client and mobile games (31 July-2 August).
Although Games Convention was the biggest games show in the world last year it was put in doubt as the industry withdrew their support and opted to go for a new German event Gamescom in Cologne (19-23 August). As a bit of "knife twisting" Gamescom issued a press release about "a marked increase in leading companies from online and browser games" attending Gamescom. We assume they mean compared to last year's Games Convention, since this is the first Gamescom.
