A number of Xbox support staff have been laid off earlier this month, according to a report from Polygon, which sites two sources apparently affected by these losses, with 12 people allegedly losing their jobs in the team working with support enquiries directed to the Xbox Support Twitter account.
The team worked with volunteers - Xbox Ambassadors - who get prizes for helping with support enquiries, and the report says that Microsoft has kept a small team to manage the Ambassadors, with some of those laid off having been responsible for training them.
"We continue to have a number of highly-trained customer support agents, plus community ambassadors, available to help customers with their needs," a Microsoft spokesperson said.
One source allegedly claimed that this cost-cutting will have a negative impact on support, saying that Ambassadors don't have the same knowledge of a full team. Do you agree?
