There have been a lot of rumours lately saying that there's a new Perfect Dark game in development, but that Rare themselves aren't involved. This has made some people doubt the rumour, but in an interview with Rare's studio head Craig Duncan he said that they're actually open to the idea of other developers using their brands.
"Rare has this 32-year back catalog of heritage and IP, and while I wouldn't say we were Disney or even Nintendo or ega or any of the other kind of long-term IP stalwarts in our business, people ask us to use stuff," he said. "It's absolutely not out of the realm of possibility, but not only does the 'why' have to be right, but the team, and the people, and 'who' have to be right. Rare is the guardian of Rare's IP."
Duncan even goes as far as hinting that something might be brewing right now, adding: "Who knows what the future holds?"
Besides Perfect Dark there are also rumours of a new Battletoads game that some claim is being developed outside Rare. We've also already gotten a new Killer Instinct game from Double Helix and Iron Galaxy, and there was also a Conker campaign released for Project Spark developed by Team Dakota.
Duncan making these statements ahead of E3 makes us somewhat hopeful that we just might see a revival of a Rare brand at the event, but then again, it could be wishful thinking. Which Rare series would you like to see brought back to life, and who should develop it?
