Epic has just dropped an update on the work the studio is currently doing behind the scenes on Fortnite: Battle Royale. On top of performance tweaks and changes that'll hopefully improve things for those playing on a controller, it was also explained how limited time events and items are going to be used to experiment with the Fortnite formula moving forward.
One of these limited time events is Playground, which will load players into the typical map with "some adjusted settings." These adjustments include extended time to explore and scavenge the map (helpful as "all treasure chests and ammo crates will be spawned"), as well as increased resource generation. Stats and challenges won't be tracked in the new mode, however.
Perhaps most interesting is the inclusion of respawns, with Epic explaining that "friendly fire is on so you can scrimmage with your squad (up to 4 friends per match), but fear not you'll respawn immediately." There'll also be llamas, naturally.
Check out the full post here for the fine print with regards to quality of life improvements, performance tweaks, and refined controller support, as well as the tease that following the popularity of the 50vs50 mode the studio is "evaluating keeping a larger squad mode live at all times for those who enjoy that type of battling more."
