There are big changes coming to PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds this year. We knew a little beforehand, but this week PUBG Corp. and Brendan Greene shared their vision for the game in 2018 and outlined their plans in more detail.

Notably, as they look to stabilise the experience further, a new experimental test server is set to be implemented.

"This year we're committing to a major content delivery cycle every two months, the first of which is planned for this month. Each of these major updates will bring changes to specific systems and/or introduce new content. Smaller updates between the major ones will also continue throughout the year," Greene wrote.

"This year we want to involve our players in the ongoing development of PUBG even more than before, and to aid with this we plan to open an Experimental Test Server so we can get your valuable feedback on our feature/content development cycle sooner and for you to have a real impact on how our game changes and develops going forward."

It's on this test server that we'll get our first chance to play on the new maps. The upcoming much smaller 4x4km island map looks like it's going to really change up the dynamic of a typical game of PUBG, and we're certainly looking forward to taking a look at that when it lands.

Beyond that there's going to be a bigger 8x8km map further down the line, also coming first to the new experimental test server, and there's also a huge range of features and changes planned, including an overhauled animation system, improvements to physics, combat, vehicles, and the world in general. They even promise new game modes. If you'd like to know specifics you can check out the roadmap in full here.
