Chucklefish, the publisher of such successes as Stardew Valley, is currently hard at work at Project Spellbound, a game which borrows from the farming game in many ways, but is set in a magic school, where you have to learn magic, make potions and use a deluge of other systems to be successful.
Frankly, this all sounds very enticing, and now we've learned a bit more. This is thanks to an interview with Red Bull Games, where Chucklefish founder Finn Brice has delivered new details.
Firstly, Brice has revealed, that just like Stardew Valley is not only about working the land, Project Spellbound will also focus heavily on personal relationships.
"The game revolves around your path through school, the relationships you build, and your mastery of the several schools of magic at your disposal. Players should expect to build up their magical proficiency by undertaking school projects. This might have them growing magical crops and creatures in herbology or taking on the denizens of the forest in elemental magic."
"School life is just as important as magic however; a lot of time will be spent meeting and befriending the varied cast of characters, taking on quests, awkward attempts at dating and a host of side activities."
Additionally, characters have their own goals within the game, and you could actually be dumped by your special someone.
Furthermore, combat will also be a factor, and Brice describes this as "Zelda-like retro action RPGs, with spellcasting taking the place of swords, bows and bombs."
It would seem that Chucklefish is leaning heavily on Stardew Valley for structural inspiration. However, don't expect it to release anytime soon, and for now, the game is only planned for PC.
