Word on the street is that a remaster of Warcraft III is in the works, with speculation mounting that an announcement may well be on the horizon.

This is intel that comes from a Reddit user, who claims that Blizzard is trying to secretly gather the best players from the Warcraft III esports scene. According to his information, two Russian players, Happy and HawK, have moved to Serbia in order to more quickly obtain visas so they can enter the US.

Other players could allegedly be in the same situation, including the Ukrainian Broggy and his colleague Grubby. Other big names in the competitive WC3 scene could also be joining. Every one of them refused to explain the reasons for their rather sudden departures, according to the original post at any rate.

We can pretty much exclude a tournament because Blizzard would have no interest in keeping something like that secret. Furthermore, Happy categorically refuses to participate in LAN competitions. So yeah, it's probably not that.

Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos is an RTS set before the World of Warcraft story. The game was released in 2002, and plenty of fans have long been hoping for another game in the series. A remastered version is probably the most plausible project, however. A port of the game for other platforms beyond PC, such as tablets or smartphones, wouldn't be a bad idea either. As for Warcraft IV: fingers crossed!
