Paradox Interactive recently announced Hearts of Iron: The Card Game as part of their Paradox Connect initiative, basically a portal for free-to-play online games with microtransactions.

As with most games of this nature you will be equipped with the essentials without charge when you start playing. A starter deck, a couple of booster and you can start playing immediately. There will also be free rewards for players when they unlock achievements as well as reaching certain goals (reset weekly) such as 25 wins. There will be premium tournaments that you pay a fee to enter and you can of course boost your deck with bought cards or simply trade with other players.

You will play as either Axis, Allies or Comintern and the deck is made up of 120 cards + 20 promotional cards (to be given out to those participating in the beta test or promotional giveaways, etc) and there will be multiple game modes.

Hearts of Iron: The Card Game is in development at Corncrow Games and is due out in the second quarter of 2011.
