It's not going to surprise many people, but we think a fair few among us are going to be rather disappointed to hear that the release date for Red Dead Redemption 2 has been pushed back by several months, with the planned Q2 release window now turning into a launch date of October 26.

Rockstar confirmed the news in a post (see below) that also included a selection of new screenshots, which are a welcome sight but ultimately will be scant consolation for fans eager to head out west in search of adventure. When it does land in October, where it'll go up against the rest of the year's big hitters in the run up to Christmas, it'll do so on PS4 and Xbox One.

We are excited to announce that Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released on October 26th 2018. We apologize to everyone disappointed by this delay. While we had hoped to have the game out sooner, we require a little extra time for polish.

We sincerely thank you for your patience and hope that when you get to play the game, you will agree the wait will have been worth it. In the meantime, please check out these screenshots from the game. We look forward to sharing a lot more information with you in the coming weeks.
