Star Wars Battlefront II didn't meet EA's expectations for the third quarter of fiscal year 2019. Prior to EA's earnings call, CFO Blake Jorgensen told The Wall Street Journal that the game released in November sold around 7 million units before the end of the year, short of the 8 million forecast by the company. Digital sales keep growing compared to retail (37% - 63%), Jorgensen added.

From EA's perspective, Battlefront II's launch was marred by the debate over microtransactions. Many users complained about a pay-to-win system that forced DICE to remove the option to buy the in-game currency with real money. Andrew Wilson, CEO at EA, said that a new system will be put in place in the coming months, as the company will not give up in other ways of monetisation.

"Digital economies have a place, and we will continue to drive and focus on that", he said. "The teams are working on how that context will apply to the Battlefront universe, but more on that in the months to come."

Jorgensen also said that Star Wars Battlefront III is going to happen, but as yet they haven't decided when we'll get to play it.
