A video posted over five months ago by composer Mark Killian has only recently come to public attention. It demonstrates an ancient Egyptian setting, complete with period architecture and swarms of insects. Needless to say the trailer caused plenty of people to sit up and take notice.
The project called ‘Osiris' was initially thought to be another entry into the Prince of Persia series (which has been rumoured for a while now), and whilst we still can't ascertain whether this was the case, or whether it was a completely new IP, it seems that project is going nowhere, regardless of its origins.
In a report on Polygon an Ubisoft rep said: "The content in question was from a Ubisoft project that is no longer moving forward."
Whether this project has anything to do with the recent Prince of Persia project that was "paused" by Ubisoft remains to be seen. In a recent interview, Ubi's Yannis Mallat told IGN: "Brand management is a tricky thing. It needs people's attention a lot. I think it is fair to say that, right now, Prince of Persia is being paused. But we said the same thing for some other brands that suddenly popped up because a team is willing to do it."
Maybe one day we'll discover if the projects were linked or not, but for now both Osiris and the "paused" Prince of Persia game aren't going anywhere in a hurry.
