Despite a few screenshots, an interview here and there, and the one announcement trailer, we've heard basically nothing about the upcoming Final Fantasy VII: Remake since its announcement at E3 2015. Because of the silence, fans have been speculating how development is going, but now there's at least some word, even if it's not all that detailed.
Recently, producer Yoshinori Kitase gave a development update to Weekly Famitsu (via DualShockers), and here he confirmed that development is going well.
That was, however, all he basically had to say. He did explain that he'd like to work on the "comfort" of the game in 2018, and you can interpret that as you will. Presumably, the mechanics are being iterated upon.
Also, Final Fantasy Brand Manager Shinji Hashimoto, mentioned that he's really excited about E3, where he hopes to increase excitement for each of their upcoming projects.
