Microsoft looking to invest in exclusive titles

Developer bears witness.

Microsoft is starting to wake up to the idea that if fortunes don't shift significantly they may very well come in third place this generation as PlayStation 4 extends its lead and Switch is catching up with remarkable speed.

Back in November, they launched a new console, Xbox One X, with very little in terms of exclusive software support. That could be about to change. In a discussion over on ResetEra, a developer from Danish Flashbulb Games (Trailmakers) had this to say:

"Without going into too much detail, I know for sure that Microsoft has got their cheque-book out and are actively seeking out both smaller and larger titles they can get as an Xbox exclusive, both timed and full on."

Now for a random game developer to say something like this is perhaps not all that interesting, but Flashbulb Games was born out of the closed down Press Play studio that Microsoft owned, so it stands to figure they're well connected.

This echoes something Obsidian Entertainment's Feargus Urquhart had to say when opening up on their cancelled Xbox 360 RPG Stormlands, that Microsoft "is looking".

Now, in the past Microsoft has bought third-party exclusivities for the likes of Rise of the Tomb Raider, Dead Rising 4 and most recently PUBG on console. What do you think they've got their eyes set on next?

Thanks, Gamepur.
