Over the past five years Magic Leap, a relatively new start-up company aiming to revolutionise wearable technology, has gathered venture capital, and is now worth over $6 billion USD on the stock market. That value is set to increase though, as they've just unveiled their very first product, called Lightwear.
Magic Leap unveiled the mixed-reality headset on their website, where they've revealed that they're looking to modernise current VR and AR technology by making it easy to use and lightweight. The headset works the same way Microsoft's HoloLens does, projecting holographic images onto the real world, and it's powered by a tiny supercomputer called Lightpack.
It's still up in the air exactly what the Lightwear's intended use is, but Glixel's Brian Crecente recently got to try several experiences, like interactive virtual screens, comic books, theme park rides, and robot and human figures. He seemed quite impressed with the unit, stipulating that it was a lot more convincing than other AR headsets in development.
Lightwear will launch for developers some time in 2018. Could this be the future?
