Simogo was founded back in 2010 and has become well known for the arty and highly enjoyable premium mobile games from their first effort Kosmo Spin, via the likes of Beat Sneak Bandit and more recent titles Year Walk (which also saw release on PC and Wii U), Device 6 and SPL-T. SPL-T was their most recent new release, their seventh, and it came out in 2015. Much of last year was spent updating their old games for newer OS requirements so they wouldn't get booted out of the AppStore. The studio has wrote a blog post venting some of their frustration:
"This year, a lot of time we had planned to spend on our current project, ended up being spent on just making sure that our games would not be gone from the app store. Because sadly, the platform holder seems to have no interest in preservation of software on their platform."
But the studio thinks it's pointless to try and complain so that things will change and instead their next game, "Project Night Road", will be a console game and it will have a publisher. Originally, a two-man operation, Simon Flesser and Magnus "Gordon" Gardebäck, there are now far more people working on the new game. Hence, the need for a publisher.
"We're working with a number of freelancers and friends, (many of which have worked on previous Simogo games), and several of them work full time on this project. Which means more project management, higher costs, and, you know, let's be honest; less time for the actual fun stuff: making a game. Which is why we've partnered with a publisher on "Project Night Road"(!). Simogo and publisher! The 2010 version of Simogo would have laughed at the very idea."
Exactly what "Project Night Road" is remains secret, but the plan is to reveal the game early next year and finish it before the year ends. It's coming to console and it has a publisher. And we're quite excited.
