When you think of Christmas trees, a certain image comes to mind, but not a lot of people would have thought of what's appeared at King's Cross station in London, as this is a playable Christmas tree that stands at six metres tall and is made of 7,000 lights.

The tree is an adapted version of Line Wobbler and has been made as a collaborative effort between London Game Festival (taking place from April 5 to 15), designer Robin Baumgarten, and Network Rail.

The tree will sit at the station until January 4 before moving onto other venues, and you can see the tree itself in the pictures down below, which is a "a one-dimensional custom hardware game with a wobble controller made out of a steel spring and a long LED strip display. The game is an award-winning experiment in minimalism in game design, use of novel input mechanics, and the incorporation of physical space into the game," as the press release puts it.

"The game is a 'dungeon crawler' where the player navigates obstacles and fights enemies to reach the exit of a series of increasingly difficult levels. Movement is controlled by bending the Wobble controller forward and back, while enemies are attacked by flinging the spring. Obstacles such as lava fields, conveyor belts and slopes challenge the navigation skills of the player."
