The Wall Street Journal reports that Nintendo and Illumination are about to sign a contract that would the American studio to make an animated Super Mario movie.

While only one movie is currently under discussion, this contract could lead to "multiple" feature films according to WSJ.

Illumination Entertainment is best known for being in charge of Despicable Me movies and more recently Minions.

After a very unfortunate live-action adaptation from 1993 (who can forget Bob Hoskins as Mario?), which had plunged Mario and Luigi into the sewers of New York in an adventure that had very little merit, Nintendo's iconic character could soon make its return to theatres.

What do you think, is another Mario movie a good idea or should the plumber stick to video games?
