If you've been using services like Steam, gifting games digitally has been possible for what seems like ages. But in the world of console gaming, this has up until now not been possible whether you prefer Microsoft, Nintendo or Sony.

Now Microsoft has decided to do something about this, and just in time for Thanksgiving and Black Friday (and Cyber Monday) you can now give games as gifts on Xbox One. This was revealed by Mike Ybarra via Twitter: "ICYMI: Gifting is now available to everyone in time for the holidays. Go ahead and send those digital ????! #Xbox"

A button clearly marked as "Buy as gift" has been added when you buy games, and to give it to someone, just add their email address and they'll get the 25 digit code that unlocks the game. There are a few special rules, however.

If a game is on sale, you can only buy two copies of it (within a two week period of time). The recipient also needs to be in the same region as you, likely to prevent people from using different regions lower prices, keeping the games within the same age rating systems and possibly for tax reasons.
