Korean developer/publisher Nexon has announced a record-breaking third quarter of their fiscal 2018, up 36% year-on-year (also benefitting from some exchange rate fluctuations). The main driver was Dungeon&Fighter, FIFA Online 3. Nexon's relationship with EA has been very successful as they have also brought Need for Speed Edge and Titanfall Online to Asia previously. An agreement for FIFA Online 4 was also confirmed.

"Nexon had another very strong quarter with consistently strong performances in our core markets," said Owen Mahoney, President and Chief Executive Officer, Nexon. "Long-running successes like MapleStory and Dungeon&Fighter, along with sustained engagement on FIFA Online 3 and FIFA Online 3 M, validate our model of making games that last for years and decades."

Nexon did not see the same success with Boss Key Productions Lawbreakers, and this title went without mention in the press release. That's not to say that Nexon isn't looking to Western development to further their success as an agreement to acquire California-based Pixelberry Studios was confirmed.

Described as "the leading developer in interactive narrative mobiles games", Pixelberry Studios has developed games like Choices: Stories You Play and High School Story.

"Pixelberry is at the intersection of storytelling and games, bringing interactive fiction to a whole new audience that would never have considered themselves gamers before," said Oliver Miao, CEO, Pixelberry Studios. "Nexon is the perfect choice for our unified vision for creating and leading a new category of mobile fiction for readers around the world."

Lawbreakers may be struggling but its publisher is still doing great.
