When Brendan Greene took the stage during Microsoft's E3 press conference to reveal that they've teamed up with the company to bring PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds to the Xbox One he just said that it'll come to the preview program "at the end of 2018". Now we know the exact date.
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds will be released on the Xbox One X preview program on December 12 and will cost £ 26.99 / € 29.99, the same as the Steam version.
We also had the pleasure of talking with Greene and Chang Han Kim (the game's executive producer) shortly before this announcement and they had a few interesting details to share. First of all, the PC and Xbox One versions will have two different roadmaps, at least for the first few months. This means that they won't necessarily get the same updates and content. There are several reasons for this, including slight differences in the code and different controls. Still, Greene hopes that the two versions' roadmaps will merge or at least become very similar in the future, but time will tell if that's possible.
One of the things that must happen for this to be possible is that the Xbox One finally gets official keyboard and mouse support. Kim says that they know that it's coming and that they would love to support both controllers and keyboard/mouse on the Xbox One. He does however say that they want the game to be fair, so they are working on optional systems that will separate those who use a controller and those who use a keyboard/mouse. This makes sense, considering Greene said he would like to see people play cross-platform when talking with us at Gamescom. Again, this is far from a confirmation that it'll happen, but at least we know they are considering it.
Is this a must buy for you in December?
