Despite the launch of the PlayStation 4 Pro and the upcoming launch of the Xbox One X, there can be no mistaking that this console cycle will soon be entering its fifth year. However, one CEO expects there to be healthy demand for the updated versions of these machines during the holidays, meaning that the market is far from stagnating.
During a recent earnings call, AMD CEO Dr. Lisa T. Su said that the company does expect overall demand to trend downwards, but that they're still happy with the sales.
"Our semi-custom business continues to perform as expected for the year and we anticipate seasonal demand to remain healthy as our customers enter the holiday sales cycle with Sony's PlayStation 4 Pro and Microsoft's Xbox One X."
"We believe that semi-custom revenue will be down a little bit on a year-over-year basis, and that's expected. We're in the fifth year of the cycle and you would expect that units to be down, although we have some positive mix because of the new launch of the Microsoft Xbox One X console, which is a higher ASP product for us."
