For 18 years Neogaf has been the centrepiece of the social side of video games. If you don't know or use it, it's a forum where journalists, developers, business people, PR, and of course regular gamers, come together to talk about everything relating to the world of video games.
It's there that people discuss everything from the sales numbers of obscure titles through to the grades of the latest games. Plenty of rumours have started on Neogaf, and its importance shouldn't be underestimated.
Despite all that, this weekend seemed to mark the end of the popular forum. Owner Tyler "Evilore" Malka has been accused of sexual harassment by filmmaker Ima Leupp (her post coming as part of the growing #MeToo movement that followed the Harvey Weinstein scandal).
Leupp's post started a chain reaction of events that lead to mods leaving and regular users abandoning ship in great numbers. Then, since late Saturday, Neogaf is down and the future of the forum is uncertain.
It remains to be seen if someone can pick up the remains, or even if someone else will step up and establish a spiritual successor, but the most likely scenario could well be that an era just has ended and many people will migrate to other forums like Reddit.
If this is to be the end, will you miss Neogaf?
