There's been a lot of talk about loot boxes and microtransactions lately, as it seems like pretty much every game has one or the other. One of the most heated debates has been about how they work in Star Wars Battlefront II, and the developers have now released a statement regarding these debates and other things they're considering changing before launch.
EA and Dice's statement specifies that we didn't see the full version of the crates and progression system in the beta, and that they're still tweaking the systems. They're assuring us that the team is working very hard to keep the game as balanced as possible, though, and that's why we'll be able to earn both weapons, attachments, credits, Star Cards, emotes, outfits, and victory poses while playing, but only the four last ones will be included in loot crates.
These crates aren't just bought for real money either, as it'll also be possible to earn them by completing challenges and other gameplay milestones, or by purchasing them with in-game credits.
Then there's the much talked about Star Cards. Many felt that these almost decided how a battle would end, as some of them would make the battles very unbalanced. We're told that we'll have to be a high enough rank to be able to Star Cards and unlock most weapons. Star Cards can be upgraded with crafting parts we get by destroying duplicate Star Cards. This sounds like a fair enough solution, at least short term, but it still appears they haven't found a way to keep the game balanced when the player actually reaches the higher ranks, so it'll be interesting to see if they make more changes.
Progression and loot crates aren't the only things changing after the beta. The developers are also considering making Strike Mode best out of three, nerfing the Specialists' Infiltration ability, buffing the First Order's Flametroopers, a new feature that rewards all players in a spawn wave, and other ways of incentivising team work.
