There's a lot of anticipation for God of War, the new chapter in the long-running series developed by Sony Santa Monica, scheduled to launch in early 2018, and we already know that protagonist Kratos will be flanked by his son Atreus in this new game. However, in a recent interview creative director Cory Barlog wanted to clarify Atreus' role within the game, explaining that we're not just going to be escorting him everywhere.

"It's most definitely not an escort mission," said Barlog. "The player has direct command over Atreus and is trying to guide him through the process, but the kid has his own mind and he is able to handle himself even when you're not paying attention."

He added that players can ask Atreus to perform certain tasks just by pushing a button, adding that it's like "teaching your kid to ride a bike as you run alongside."

In the same interview, Barlog also revealed a very interesting curiosity about the cast. In the game, Kratos and Atreus are played respectively by Christopher Judge and Sunny Suljic, and in order to make their father-son relationship genuine and realistic, the studio has put the two actors under different affinity testing and apparently the result was a success.

Are you glad to hear that it's not just escorting?
