Luc Besson is a director who's mostly known for films like The Fifth Element and Lucy, although his latest project Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets didn't perform too well at the box office - the film only made $40 million USD in the US, which isn't a lot compared to the film's $177.2 million budget. It's a pretty safe bet that there's no sequel coming, then, but this might also mean some good news for a sequel to an entirely different franchise.
According to a report by Variety, Luc Besson's production company Europa Corp will now focus on films that have earned them big bucks in the past, one of these apparently being Lucy 2, the script for which has been completed, the film itself being in "active development". Besson's next project will be an original thriller, which also features a female protagonist, but after that, he might turn his efforts to Lucy 2.
The original Lucy starred Scarlett Johansson who gains superpowers and starts using them to destructive effect, but is it a film you'd like to see a sequel to?
