While circumstantial evidence points to a slow start for Wii U, Nintendo can take pride in the fact that the fortunes of Nintendo 3DS have turned around after a slow start for the handheld. The unit has managed a very impressive 10 million sold in 98 weeks on market in Japan.

Nintendo 3DS reached this milestone ahead of such juggernauts as Playstation 2 and Wii, but trails behind Nintendo DS by a small margin.

Given the 10 million units sold 8 percent of the Japanese population now owns one (discounting owners of multiple units).
