God of War will have more charismatic gods

The Greek gods were like politicians, while the Nordic ones are more down to earth.

Cory Barlog, the director of God of War, has been in a very sharing mood lately. Last week, we got some beautiful artwork from the game, and now he's ready to share a few details from the game.

Sony has released a new podcast on the game's official website which includes a fairly lengthy interview with Barlog and story lead Matthew Sophos. The interview covers a few subjects we already knew about, including how Atreus will teach Kratos some of the languages in the game (which again will have gameplay implications), how the runes change the magic system, and more. One of the aspects we haven't heard much about is the game's gods, which is why the interview might interest you.

Barlog and Sophos say that the Nordic gods and creatures are vastly different than the ones we met in the previous games. Where the Greek gods were like well-manicured politicians, the Nordic gods are more down to earth and charismatic. They are what you might call more human, as the Æsir are living every moment to its fullest and just wants to fight and drink, the Vanir are living in harmony with nature, and the Giants just wants to create amazing things.

We're told that this will make for some very interesting sequences in the start, as Kratos' expectations are formed by what he went through in Greece. Just look at his meeting with the Midgard Serpent. Kratos wants to attack it on sight but Atreus knows better and tells him not to. This is just one of the examples where we'll see that this world and game will make both us and Kratos approach things differently this time around.

What other things do you hope have changed in God of War?
