The Playstation 2 was launched back in 2000 in Japan, and on December 28 the last ever Japanese shipment of the console was sent out, according to Famitsu (via Kotaku).
Once stocks are out in Japan, that's it. Remains to be seen how much longer Sony will send out shipments of Playstation 2 in Europe and North America. Anyway, after more than 150 million units sold the PS2 has earned its retirement.
