We already knew that Gearbox Software was working on more Battleborn content and Borderlands 3, but that's isn't enough for the studio, and they've now announced a game codenamed Project 1v1.

Well, announced might be a strong word, as they aren't telling us much about it, although the game's official website states that it's a "competitive first-person shooter that combines the action of fast-paced 1v1 first-person combat with the metagame strategy of a collectible card game". Not exactly something you hear about every day, so they'll be holding a short, closed technical test in the near future, which is to test the online infrastructure and learn what players think about the game. Does this sound like something for you? Then you can sign up here.

With such little information, it's difficult to get excited by this announcement, but you never know what to expect from Gearbox either, so it'll be interesting to see which side of the scale this one lands on.

How can the worlds of first-person combat and collectible card games combine?
