Indie publisher Chucklefish has confirmed some long-awaited news this week, after revealing its plans to bring multiplayer to Stardew Valley. There's a beta planned for later this year, with the 1.3 update then set to roll out early 2018, if all goes to plan of course.
While nothing is final at this stage, the blog post details their intentions with regards to how the multiplayer will work. One player will remain in charge of their farm and make key decisions (such as whether to side with Joja, for example), with up to three players taking on the roles of farmhands. Players will then be able to marry one of their friends in the game, although how this will work isn't clear as yet.
The beta and multiplayer update will naturally roll out on PC first, before coming to consoles thereafter (starting with the Switch version first, although the post warns that the size of the patch means that it might take some time). There are currently no plans to introduce local, split-screen or PVP multiplayer.
