The games industry has been accused of many weird things over the years. Even child-friendly Mario has been the theme of a few interesting discussions. For example, it's been five years since PETA went after Mario for wearing the Tanooki suite, and now he's kinda in trouble for wearing something else.
Nintendo has released some new box art for Super Mario Odyssey, and quite a few have noticed the only noteworthy change to it from the one we got two months ago. You see, the version we got during E3 included a sombrero-wearing Mario in the lower left corner. This has now been replaced by an image where Mario is swimming while using a snorkel and bathing ring. Care to venture a guess as to what quite a few forum-users around the world claimed must be the reason for the change? Nintendo being afraid of being criticised for cultural appropriation. Fair enough, we can't say for certain what the reasoning was, but we are willing to bet that it's just a design choice. After all, the game's main character is a portly Italian that loves spaghetti and speaks broken English...
