With the recent reveal of a new Toy Story-inspired world in Kingdom Hearts III, as well as the promise of a 2018 release, it seems that the popularity of the Kingdom Hearts series is rising once more, and while the developers are promising more reveals in the future, chances are we could see the franchise branch out to films as well.
In a recent interview with The Mirror director Tetsuya Nomura revealed that Disney has shown interest in creating a CG film based on the franchise.
"Nothing has been thought about in terms of a cinematic piece, only because it's difficult to put into a narrative that has become as complex as Kingdom Hearts," he explained. "Of course, we do have a 15 year history so it has come up in discussions about doing some sort of cinematic piece, especially from Disney."
"They are interested in making a CG movie of sort, but again, it's difficult to make the call on how we want to execute it and how to form it. I still haven't come to a resolution about what would be the most appropriate way in which we depict the narrative, so nothing specific has been formulated."
It seems like talks are underway, at least, which is a bit of good news for fans of the series. How would like a Kingdom Hearts film to go?
