It still feels strange to report on the Japanese Wii U launch after both the European and North American launches have taken place, but it seems Nintendo had a successful opening weekend in Japan.
Famitsu reports that 308,570 Wii U units were sold and that New Super Mario Bros. U was the best selling software with an attach rate of 55%. The second best selling game was Capcom's Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate (will see release in Europe in March), with slightly more than a third of the Wii U buyers picking up that game.
According the Famitsu's numbers Wii U opening weekend ranks as the seventh best overall in the country just behind PS Vita, Nintendo 3DS, and Wii. The strongest ever Japanese opening weekend belongs to Playstation 2 (630,552 units).
