Sega has announced that Sonic the Hedgehog will be hitting San Diego Comic-Con this year, as over the five days there will be no shortage of events centred around the speedy blue mascot, who's featuring in both Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces this year.

Firstly there's a Sonic Mania: Behind the Scenes panel on Saturday July 22, featuring head of Sonic Team Takashi Iizuka, developer Christian Whitehead, programmer Simon Thomley, and more, who will all be talking about the road to development. If you're more interested in playing, though, you'll be pleased to hear that both Mania and Forces will have hands-on sessions at the convention.

If music's more your thing, on Thursday, July 20, there's a performance of music from Sonic games arranged by Shota Nakama, with iconic Sonic sound director Jun Senoue performing alongside the band too. This whole performance will be accompanied by video footage as well, and will take place in the Hilton San Diego Bayfront at 18:00.

Those competitive people out there will also be interested to hear that there's a Jump for the Gold Ring contest during all days of the convention too, a return of the contest that was featured at E3. All you have to do is bounce on the Sonic trampoline for their chance to win $1,000 USD, and the Sonic 360 dome also offers a fun experience for those at the convention too.

Lastly, there's an autograph session on Sunday 23 as well with Takashi Iizuka and Sonic Mania developers, so there's plenty of reasons for Sonic fans to be excited for Comic-Con. What would you like to do most?
