The numbers game - Sony Edition

As we all await the always interesting NPD results (due out next Thursday) it is interesting to see what numbers or facts the companies themselves provide us with. Kaz Hirai, head of Sony Computer Entertainment, offered a few tidbits at CES the other day.

Little Big Planet has sold 1.3 million copies worldwide. With 300,000 pieces of player created content online so far (equal to over two years of gameplay time!)

Over 17 million PSN accounts are out there with 2.1 million new accounts created during December.

A total of 330 million pieces of content have been downloaded over PSN.

Previously Sony have noted that holiday sales were up 130 % compared to sales prior to the holiday season.

A bonus number courtesy of Eidos. The first lady of Playstation (even though she is whoring around a bit as of late) Lara Croft managed to sell 1.5 million (presumably shipped) copies of her latest adventure - Tomb Raider: Underworld. A disappointment for the publisher who lowered their revenue targets and blamed the current economic climate and discounted triple-A competition for lack of sales in North America.
