Steam Link is currently available via external hardware that connects to a TV, allowing you to stream Steam games and play them, and now Valve has announced via the Steam community site that Samsung will be added Steam Link functionality directly to their latest line of smart televisions, eliminating the need for this external hardware.

Valve is inviting users to test the Steam Link app, in free beta stage, if they live in the United States and have a 2016 or 2017 Samsung UHD television, and the app itself will be available from the Samsung Smart Hub and will use the same streaming tech as the normal Steam Link.

The beta stage also includes playback of 1080p videos at 60 FPS as well as supporting the Steam controller, and a worldwide release for the app is planned this summer, including streaming 4K resolutions and additional controllers.

Valve also said that feedback and questions on the app can be posted to the Steam forums. Do you like the idea of an app better than the previous hardware?
