Yesterday we reported that Amazon have been emailing those who have bought multiple units of the SNES Mini, telling them their order had been reduced to just one, and now there are reports that Ebay is tackling the potential scalper problem as well.
Ever since SNES Mini pre-orders opened, places have sold out super quick, and versions of the console have been popping up on Ebay marked up to significantly higher prices. However, it seems as if listings are being pulled off the site regularly.
A representative of Ebay has said that pre-order items can only be listed if they can be posted within 30 days of the purchase time, and that "we will remove listings for pre-release items and accessories if the release date of the item is more than 30 days away." Whether this is just an excuse to remove scalpers, who can tell, but it's good to see that Ebay are taking action, even if it's going to be hard to keep all of them away for good.
How can scalping be prevented in the future?
