Were you planning to stay awake for a few days after the launch of Wrath of the Lich King, becoming the first of your class or race to reach level 80? Have you already stockpiled coffee, Jolt and enough candy to keep you up for the long hours that particular feat would take to complete? Then I got bad news for you - the titles for the first level 80s have been removed from the game.
Blizzard must have realised that it wasn't all that ethical to encourage people to play for that long, probably keeping the debacle surrounding the 18 hour bossfight in Final Fantasy XI in mind. That particular fight saw members of the guild Beyond the Limitation passing out or throwing up in front of their computers when the boss Pandemonium Warden just wouldn't die, which created a general outcry amongst players, the gaming press and the blogosphere. Square Enix decided to nerf the Warden after that incident, and I doubt that the people at Blizzard want to hear similar stories about people straining themselves to the limit trying to reach level 80 before anyone else.
Not that the removal of titles will stop some people from trying to become the first level 80 in the world, just like what happened when the Burning Crusade changed the level cap from 60 to 70. But at least this time it won't be sanctioned by Blizzard themselves. The titles awarded for becoming the first on the server to cap a given proffession, or to gain the Nothrend Vanguard achievement, have been removed as well.
So you might as well down all that coffee now.
