Several rumours have been circulating recently with regards to the launch of Sony's next console, PlayStation 5. Although the company is fully focused on the current generation (PS4 and PS4 Pro), it's clear that they already have plans for the next gen, to the point that some analysts have already predicted that PlayStation 5 might be released by the end of next year (2018).

However, in an interview with German website Golem, the President of Sony America, Shawn Layden, made it clear that the company isn't willing to abandon the current console generation any time soon, largely because there's a rich line-up coming to both PS4 consoles.

Also, unlike Playstation 4 Pro, the new hardware will be a completely different proposition in terms of tech and architecture. Layden also added that despite the fact that companies are releasing up-to-date versions of their consoles, the improvements they make are not comparable to those of a new generation. According to Layden, it will "probably be some time" before the reveal of the PS5. Therefore, it looks like forecasts of a 2018 launch may prove wide of the mark.

Thanks, VG247.
